2 Kings 2. Mantle of Elijah Fell on Elisha

Elijah was translated to be a ministering angel to continue his ministry. He did not feel pain or the suffering of death but was still not a resurrected being. Within an instant Elijah was changed from mortality to immortality. Then those that are translated, at Judgement Day they will be changed yet again so they can eternally dwell with God. No power from Satan or of the earth can tempt or hold them.
  • Elisha was to succeed Elijah as the prophet
  • The Lord called Elisha through Elijah. While Elisha was working his fields Elijah walked to him and placed his coat on Elisha's shoulders. Elijah's coat signifies the mantle, responsibilities of being prophet.
  • Elisha asked if Elijah would give him "a double portion of...his...spirit"
  • Elisha saw Elijah being taken up to heaven on a chariot of fire and whirlwind before taking Elijah's place as prophet
  • In 2 Kings 2:15 gives specific evidence, besides his work and righteousness, that Elisha got what he asked for "And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him."
